President Elect Trump's desire to secure our borders and stem the flood of illegal immigration and the flow of drugs is long overdue.  However the idea of a wall is outdated medieval thinking.  Any preposition can and will circumvent a wall.  Aggressive enforcement of existing law and painful penalties for breaking it would provide an umbrella over the entire country rather than the thin shell at the southern border.  Take the money that would be spent on a wall and put it into law enforcement.  Make the punishment for returning to the United States once deported extremely harsh.  Punish any criminal activity by illegals extremely harshly. 
    I believe there should be a brief period of time where anyone who has been in the US for a period of time and has not been involved in any other criminal activity could be registered and started on the road to citizenship.  Yes, I know "amnesty" is a touchy word politically but difficult problems often require some level of creativity, compromise, and flexible thinking to resolve.  Additionally, the idea that being born on US soil makes one a citizen automatically must apply only to those born of a mother who is in the country legally.
