State Senate tries to block Car Tax Relief

Senate Democrats "object" to car tax relief

Columbia—Today State Senator Linda Short, a Democrat from Chester, objected to a bill which when amended would have cut car taxes in South Carolina by an average of 70%. The plan is modeled after Lt. Governor Bob Peeler’s Compact for Car Tax Relief, which already has twenty-five co-sponsors.

Lt. Governor Peeler said, "South Carolinians already pay the second highest car taxes in America, if the Democrats in the State Senate continue to block efforts just to debate car tax relief, they will prove once and for all that they are out of touch with taxpayers."

Senator Harvey Peeler (Cherokee) sponsored the amendment and stated, "This will not go away. Senate Republicans will continue to fight for car tax relief, because it is the right thing to do."

Senator Peeler was joined by Senator Joe Wilson (Lexington) and Senator John Courson (Richland) who co-sponsored the amendment and pledged their efforts to pass car tax relief this session. "Stay tuned," said Senator Wilson.
