My father was a member of the republican party here on Long Island. He was elected to Mineola School Board while I was a junior in High School and was elected to serve the taxpayers who were fed up paying high property taxes and low education standards. He battled against Tom DiNapoli who was just starting his political career. He is now Controller of New York and probably will be NYs next Governor. I am familiar with the lies they tell and the games they play. I remember the passion he had fighting for the people who elected him. The respect he earned eventually led him to be Chairman of Nassau-Suffolk County School Board. Keep in mind this was all voluntary. I personally feel my high school education suffered. I went through two teachers strikes, Although I had decent grades I was never advised on scholarships for college available to me or even taking SATs . Unfortunately my father was also employed by Trans World Airlines which required him to be out of the country. Due to deregulations of the airline industry during the 1980s my father was laid off when I graduated. Instead of entering college with the rest of my peers I was forced to enter the work force. I answered and ad for employment for check processing with MHT in 1990. The job did not pay well however they did offer college reimbursement. Unfortunately the bank went through four mergers in the 1990s, Chemical, Chase, JP Morgan and Bank One. Every time I tried to go to college I was told there was too much overtime. After the last merger I too was laid off. These banks should never have been allowed to merge laying off 1000s of workers. While bank executive were rewarded regular employees were not. Next I was employed by a mortgage broker which was short lived because of the mortgage crisis. I hope you can related to how I felt when the Banking industry received a government bailout supported by both parties. In 2010, rather then searching for another job I decided to cash my 401k and go college full time. Unfortunately due to skyrocketing cost of college it only paid for about 1 1/2 years. I am now 51 years old with college debt of 50,000. I finally graduated last May with an Accounting Degree with honors. I have sent out my resume to all major accounting firms, financial firms have been turned down every time. This brings me to why I am supporting Donald Trump. I feel both parties Republican and Democrats are not looking out for hard working Americans. I feel many Republicans are too often looking out for the wealthy. I don't see the passion my father had in many republicans. I think Paul Ryan is a sell out and have lost all respect for him. While I have no problem with letting some legal immigrants into the country, I feel they are one of the reasons college cost have skyrocketed. They are also taking over many businesses on Long Island. They take advantage of the property tax laws while promising to hire workers. I truly feel this country has already gone off the wrong track and respect Trump because he is at least willing to fight for ordinary Americans especially when he could of remained in the private sector.
