House subcomittee approves amended bullying bill
(Columbia-AP) February 1, 2006 - A House subcommittee approved a bill Wednesday defining what it means to be a bully and setting statewide standards for punishment.

The bill, already passed by the Senate, prohibits students from harassing, intimidating or bullying other students and requires school personnel to report the behavior.

Each local school district would be required to set its own disciplinary measures, based on recommendations from the state Board of Education.

The bill now moves to the full House Education and Public Works Committee.
