House And Senate Override Governor's Veto |
(Columbia) - The Senate and the House had the 2/3's necessary to overide the Governor's veto on the Life Sciences Act.
During the debate in the senate many senators agreed the bill wasn't perfect, but by late this afternoon there were more who thought it was good enough to override the veto.
Senator John Courson of Richland County thought that the flaw in the system is something that could be worked out later. The important thing was getting overriding the veto today.
"The process is flawed that's a debate we can have at a later hour, but the issue before us now is whether we want to do something for the good of the people of the Palmetto state and I'm gonna vote to override the veto," Courson said.
The Governor seem to agree there are portions of the bill that are important for economic development in South Carolina.
"It's a bill that I think is an outrage from the standpoint of watching out for taxpayers and from the standpoint of process that we often adhere to in Columbia and that is if you got a bill that'll pass on its own let that bill go...don't load junk on it." Sanford said.
