(Shelby, North Carolina-AP) -- The mysterious deaths of three elderly women last year, combined with the recent slayings of two other elderly residents, have raised fears among senior citizens in Shelby, North Carolina. In all three cases, the women were found dead in their beds with no sign of foul play. In each case, an outside phone line to the house had been cut and the doors to the house were unlocked. Lottie Ledford, 85, was found dead in August, 79-year-old Margaret Tessneer in September and 87-year-old Lillian Mullinax in November. Police found 77-year-old Caroline Allen shot to death in her home Tuesday evening. That killing followed the January second slaying of 77-year-old James Kilgore, inside his apartment. Shelby police Captain Jeff Ledford says the FBI and an agent from South Carolina's State Law Enforcement Division have been asked to help in the Kilgore case. Ledford says while the SLED agent was in town police talked to the officer about the three deaths last year. |
