GAFFNEY, S.C. - Police seized what they
described as illegal gambling machines in a raid of two Gaffney
businesses Tuesday.
The Cherokee County Sheriff's Department and the State Law
Enforcement confiscated 70 computers and related hardware.
The raid came after undercover agents played games on machines
and were paid for their winnings.
Authorities charged Norman L. Childers, 58, operator of Gameland
Bingo Internet Cafe, and James Melvin Hicks, Jr., 43, operator of
the Possum Corner Internet Cafe, with running illegal gaming
devices. Both were released on bond.
The state outlawed video gambling machines five years ago. An
order to destroy the machines has been issued. |
