The Senate and House adjourned Thursday at
5 pm.
Lawmakers worked throughout the day to get bills
completed as the hours ticked away for the last day of the
legislative session.
A filibuster in the Senate held up major
legislation, including bills that would reform the Public Service
Commission, lower the drunken-driving level to .08, reform campaign
finance spending and raise the level of education
funding.
Also up in the air was a bill calling the General
Assembly back on June 17th to deal with Governor Mark Sanford's
budget vetoes.
The House approved the bill, but the Senate
has been unable to get agreement.
Legislators won't have a
chance to deal with the governor's vetoes until they return in
January or unless the governor calls them back into
session. |
