Industry Appreciation Week kicks off Monday in S.C.
COLUMBIA -- Across the Palmetto State, communities large and small, urban and rural will act in unison this week to recognize something that contributes to the well-being of our citizens -- South Carolina industry.
Sept. 29 kicks off South Carolina's 13th annual Industry Appreciation Week. The observance is a chance for cities and towns to honor the state's industries that fuel the local and state economies through job creation, investments and tax payments.
The week will begin with the presentation of "Ambassadors for Economic Development" Awards at 10 a.m. Monday at the Embassy Suites Hotel, 200 Stoneridge Drive, Columbia. Gov. Mark Sanford will individually recognize all of the 46 ambassadors, one from each county. Ambassadors are private sector individuals who have made exceptional contributions to community and state development during 2002-03.
"Building a more business-friendly climate in South Carolina is central to this administration's economic development efforts," Sanford said. "A big part of that is thanking companies and industries that are doing their part to help us keep South Carolina home to jobs and capital investment. We're committed to advancing reforms that enhance their ability to do just that."
Secretary of Commerce Bob Faith will also appear at the event.
"It is hard to quantify the terrific contributions that S.C. industries have made and continued to make to the state," Faith said. "Nevertheless, we celebrate business this week and look forward to an even stronger public/private partnership as we continue toward positioning ourselves globally."
Following Monday morning's kickoff, events will take place around the state throughout the week to show community support for South Carolina industries.
