Unfortunately there is one major drawback to living in this state, the drivers! We migrated from Michigan to SC last year and have noticed how so many people text and drive down here. It is common to see drivers speeding down the expressway looking down at their phones and not paying attention to the road. It's bad enough that drivers that aren't even texting when driving have a horrible habit of speeding and tailgating pretty much everywhere we go. So what we have here is drivers that speed excessively, text while they drive and tailgate as a common rule. We now realize why this state is rated as the worst drivers in the country. Back in Michigan we had our share of drivers that drove to fast, and texted while driving and some tailgated, but would actually back off if you tapped your brakes to let them know they were too close. Here if you tap your brakes to let the driver know they are too close to your bumper they just move even closer. Not only is that dangerous but it seems weird that there is such a lack of regard to safe driving. I don't know the reason for this mindset, but am concerned that someday someone in our family is going to be rear ended by one of these moronic drivers. I don't know how to solve this problem, but would suggest that enforcing the speed limit and making it an offense to text and drive would send a message to the drivers in this state. One easy solution would be to place several police cars along I85 between Spartanburg and Greenville during the morning and afternoon rush hours. You could catch so many people in this area every day and the fines that would be paid would more than cover the cost of the officers. One final note is on something we have seen several times along I85, semi truck drivers that are texting while they are driving their 18 wheelers. Now that is dangerous! I have personally been forced out of the lane I was in as a semi veered into my lane. And of course the cause has been seeing them texting, that is very dangerous. Please consider enforcing some new laws and the speed limits so everyone can feel safer on the roads around here. Thank You, Eric Weber
