I am sorry to have to write you about this matter but we are at our wits end. My son goes to Lewisville Middle School in Chester County. Because we live within a mile of the school he cannot ride the school bus. We were told by the school and district transportation supervisor that it was state law. Here is the major problem, we live on the west side of Highway 9 and the school is on the east side of Highway 9 roughly .7 miles from our front door. Highway 9 is a four lane highway and does not have street lights, sidewalks, pedestrian crossing or a crossing guard near the school. We also did a sex offender search and found 13 sex offenders within a five mile radius of the school and three within a one mile radius. The school district said that they sympathize with the situation but that there was nothing that they could do. I guess they expect a 13 year old boy to walk .7 miles without a sidewalk that is not illuminated and cross the four lane highway without a crosswalk or a crossing guard.Hopefully you can see our major frustration. Another issue arises when there is a weather delay or any other issues that delay school starting or letting out early. My wife and I both work and one of us going in late or leaving early to pick him up from school at 3 everyday is really putting a strain on our employment. There has got to be something that can be done. The buses pass by our house twice in the morning and twice in the afternoon so its not like they would be going out of their way to make an exception. Again I am sorry that I had to bother you with this but you are our last resort because everyone is hiding behind a ridiculous outdated state law. Thank you for your time and have a wonderful day.
