A bill allowing primary enforcement of South Carolina’s seatbelt law is one step closer to reality.

The bill allowing police to stop cars when adults are not wearing seat belts is headed to the senate floor.

The senate transportation committee voted 14 to three for the new bill this afternoon.

It could be up for debate in the senate early next week.

The senate failed to act on a similar bill last year.

Currently, drivers may not be stopped unless they have committed another violation.
