Group seeks tax incentives for parents

A group that creates quality standards for early childhood programs said Tuesday that the state should give families tax incentives for enrolling their children in quality programs. The group also wants child-care centers and preschools to be eligible for tax incentives and low-interest loans to help improve the quality of services statewide.

The S.C. Early Childhood Quality Standards Task Force, created by lawmakers in 2006, will make formal recommendations to the General Assembly by Nov. 1. They also are examining the possibility of a voluntary rating system for early childhood programs.
