November 20th as Viola P. Legare Day
</SUBJECT> <CUSTOM1>108.239.26.51</CUSTOM1> <MSG> Viola
Pinckney Legare, affectionately known as "Pink" was born on November 20,
1925 to the late Ella "Bessie" Pinckney and the late James "Raymond"
Pinckney. Growing up on Cane Slash Road, at an early age "Pink" started
working in the fields; she recalls cutting turnip for 5 cents a day. At
the young age of 12 she learned how to cook. During her younger days she
met the love her life, the Late Arthur Harold Legare, Sr. On July of 1942
they got married and to this union 6 children were born: the late Hermena
Ruth Legare, the late Arthur "Slick" Legare, Anna Legare, Bettye Legare,
the late Henry Legare and the late Isaac "Ike" Legare. While her husband
was away serving his country, Viola worked for the Courtney Family,
cooking, cleaning and taking care of their children for many years. Viola
then took on the task to take care of her ill husband and now she takes
care of her daughter Anna without hesitation. She has also helped raised
many of her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Viola
is truly a woman of God and a faithful member at Wesley United Methodist
Church where she participates with the United Methodist Women. In her
spare time, she loves relaxing in her recliner, watching her favorite
shows and engaging in daily conversations with her sisters. She also
enjoys cooking and his known for her Red Rice and Potato Salad. Viola
truly has a heart made of pure gold and she loves to lend a helping hand.
She gives all the thanks and praises to God for allowing her to reach the
age of 90 and for keeping her in good health. Viola is surrounded by lots
of love; she has 13 grand-children, 26 great-grandchildren and 3
great-great grandchildren. "Many daughters have done well, but you excel
them all, charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, but a woman who fears
the Lord, shall be praised (Proverbs 31:29-30)" truly describes Viola
"Pink" Legare.
I believe that my great-grandmother is highly
deserving of a proclamation in this great state of South Carolina. She has
witnessed so much in her 89 years of life, from Hurricane Hugo to the
Civil Rights Movement to the MUSC Hospital Strive (which her mother
& 2 of her children participated in) to the election of President
Barack Obama (something she has dreamed of for decades) to the Recession
and recently the Emmanuel 9 Massacre. She has lost her parents, husband, 4
children, a grand-daughter and several siblings, but through her strong
faith in God she has stood strong through it all. On Saturday, November
28, 2015 her family & friends will honor her with a celebration at
her home church to celebrate her 90th Birthday! We are only promised 70
years, but she has reached the wonderful milestone of 90 years! So to the
wonderful Governor of this great state of South Carolina, Viola would be
over-joyed if you proclaim November 20th (her birthday) as Viola P. Legare
Day; it would definitely be a great day in the state of South Carolina!
She has invested so much in South Carolina & now it is time for the
fruits of her labor to
show! </MSG>
