You and the lawmakers of SC are being forced to make a decision based on the most recent event of one person of one race killing others of another race. My question to all of you is do you think the removal of the flag from the Confederate monument on the grounds of the state capital will prevent future events like this from occurring? Unfortunately, I do not, because the root cause of these events is not the confederate flag. The question needs to be asked what is/are the root cause(s) and what are we as a community, state, and nation going to do to fix the root cause(s)? The first step in this journey was witnessed in the courtroom when the families of God's newest angels forgave the suspect for his senseless actions. I do not know that my faith is that strong to have forgiven him already if I was walking in their shoes. We need to embrace our faith communities. Support our families and communities. All people need to know they are valued. I am not a fan of Hilary Clinton's, however, I do like her phrase "it takes a village." It is time for the village to unite. You need to act as you deem fit to support the people of South Carolina. Before you act, ask yourself and the state will removing the flag from the monument truly change how people behave? Regards, Elizabeth Witten
