But this time I'm compelled to share my thoughts. I come from a family of southerners with strong ties and beliefs that heritage is important. I cry everytime I hear Dixie played or sung and have fervently defended our right to proudly display the Confederate Flag as a strong symbol of our fight for state's right. I've argued at length that we should never cave to pressure to remove the flag. I've changed my mind. Just as I've always believed that we, as a state, as God-fearing people with respect for human lives would have eventually realized the evils of slavery and abandoned that practice, I too believe that we will eventually make the right decision about a flag that, to some, symbolizes the hatred that was demonstrated by Dylann Roof as he murdered our family and neighbors. In love and humility, it is time for us to work to heal the wounds that are associated with that heritage. Let's take the flag down. Thank You, Joy
