S.C. Wildlife’s 28th annual outdoor photo contest accepting entries
South Carolina Wildlife’s Twenty-Eighth Annual Outdoor Photography Competition and Print Exhibition is open to anyone interested in photography. The magazine’s award-winning photography staff will serve as judges for the contest and winning prints will be displayed at the 2012 Palmetto Sportsmen’s Classic to be held March 23-25 at the State Fairgrounds in Columbia. There is no entry fee for the contest.
The contest has two divisions: amateur and advanced (entrants decide which category to enter). Subject matter is wildlife, outdoor scenes and outdoor resource activities (hunting, fishing, boating, camping, hiking, etc.) in South Carolina. Only submit 2 prints per photographer. All photos must be taken in South Carolina. The deadline for submission is 5 p.m. on March 2. A signed and completed entry form must be included with photos; be sure your name, address, phone number and division entered are on back of each print.
All entries must be mounted on mount board or foam core, which should be thick enough to hold up when hung at the Classic. Digital 8x10 images will be accepted; however we ask manipulation (content) of these images be limited to the kinds that can be done with traditional printing techniques, such as changing saturation and contrast, burning-in and dodging, eliminating dust spots, etc. Do not alter content of images. Images in which content has been altered will not be accepted. This year only submit mounted 8x10 prints. No snapshots or panoramic views accepted. Participants should select their own mat board color. Although care will be exercised in handling all entries, the S.C. Department of Natural Resources (DNR), judges and personnel cannot be held responsible for any loss or damage to prints.
"Last year we received more birds prints than ever before in this contest. In this year’s competition, we’d like to see a variety of other species, not just birds. We suggest more animals — bear, bobcat, deer, bobwhite quail, raccoon, and rabbit — in addition to wildflowers, hunting and fishing scenes, hunting dogs, and outdoor scenics," says Tricia Way, South Carolina Wildlife photo contest coordinator. The 2011 winning photos were featured in the November-December 2011 issue of South Carolina Wildlife magazine.
The 2012 brochure with complete rules is available and can be downloaded at the South Carolina Wildlife magazine’s website. Entry deadline is March 2, 2012.
