Haley Office of the Governor 1205 Pendleton Street Columbia, South Carolina 29201 Dear Governor Haley: My name is Jeremy Levine and I am twenty-four years old and from Wayne, New Jersey. I recently completed all my courses at William Paterson University for my Masters in Public Policy in International Affairs with my thesis being finalized in the coming weeks, along with a Bachelors in Finance from Fairleigh Dickinson University Silberman College of Business in 2014. While both an undergraduate and graduate student I have worked and interned for Republican leaders like the New Jersey State Senate Minority Leader Thomas H. Kean and organizations like New Jersey Heroes that is headed by the First Lady of New Jersey Mary Pat Christie. From attending campaign events to sitting in on meetings at the State House in Trenton, New Jersey, my experiences within Republican circles have always been both positive and informative. Now to be honest I did not vote for Donald Trump during the primary or general election as I find many of his ideas both horrifying and disastrous. However, I can accept the fact that he is our President for the next four years and I hope my criticisms and fears are wrong because if he succeeds then the county succeeds. While I am concerned about the overall direction of the party and what it means for the country, it is leaders like you who remind me there are still great leaders within the Republican Party. While members within the Republican Party criticized your response to the State of the Union and seem to be ignoring your message about the party needing to be more inclusive of immigrants, minorities, and women, it is those very messages that provide me hope that there is a place for the party to thrive going forward into the twenty-first century that benefits everyone. So even though my only experience of being in South Carolina was driving with my family from New Jersey to Florida and I cannot claim to be an expert in South Carolina politics, I just wanted to express my support and appreciation for leaders like you. With my desire to pursue a PhD in political science and my interest in politics and current events that dates back to being nine years old after my father survived the 9/11 attacks, it is nice to have public servants and elected officials like you remind me that as discouraged as I was throughout this whole election season that this country is worth serving and making better for future generations. Just the barriers that you have broken should serve as an example for everyone that this country can still achieve great things with everybody having the ability to contribute because what people can do for their country is even more important than what this country can do for us. With all of that being said, upon hearing that you have been appointed to represent the United States at the United Nations, I wanted to say congratulations and also that it would be an honor to work on the staff or even intern at the United Nations for this country under your leadership. I live in New Jersey less than twenty miles outside New York City and one of the schools I am applying to for my PhD is the City University of New York with my focus being on the United Nations. It would be a great experience to study and develop my dissertation on the United Nations while working alongside you and learning everything that I possibly can. I believe that with my work experience, worth ethic, and education background that I can also be a tremendous asset as well. Thank you, Jeremy Levine P.S. Although I root for the Michigan Wolverines in college football, if they do not win I am all for Deshaun Watson and the Clemson Tigers. Anybody but Alabama ?
