To the thirty-three governors in the United States of America who have chosen grandstanding over humanity:


Your lack of leadership in the face of the knee-jerk reactions of a woefully uninformed population is shameful, as are all politically motivated moves.  Tying the events of Paris to the plight of Syrian - and other - refugees shows a level of ignorance and inhumanity that surely flies in the face of the "good" Christians you purport to be.  You know full well that the attacks in Paris, and elsewhere, will not be prevented by banning re-settlement of refugees.  Preventing angry disaffected people from mounting random attacks of violence is a challenge that will occupy us for years to come and will require many different approaches toward affecting a solution.  In the meantime, generations of refugees are being denied the opportunity to live useful productive lives.  Each uneducated child presents a threat to himself/herself and to us.  You are suggesting that leaving them to fester for years in the deplorable conditions of refugee camps is preferable to welcoming them to our country and offering to share with them some of our largess?  This is disgusting.

It is also important to note that you are, of course, the flipside of the extremist coin.  Your acolytes are the old white men who are desperately attempting to hold on to power, the disenfranchised so-called middle and lower class whites who, primarily due to accident of birth and lack of education, are willing to follow your big talk right over the cliff like a bunch of lemmings.  Your positions are not one bit less extreme than those you rail against.  Fence building - ha - check in with the Israelis to see just how successful and stultifying that is.  Your fear is disguised in your sad rhetoric and in the policies you initiate in order to further your cause.  As with all religious extremists, it's difficult to discern exactly what that cause may be, but we can be sure it is neither humane nor progressive. 

Again, you should be ashamed.
