Haley, I know that you have about a million other things to worry about than what I am about to write but I figured it's worth a shot to send your office my ideas on this issue. Currently, and to the best of my knowledge this is true, South Carolina is a state where animal control shelters are what are referred to as "kill" shelters. This means that dogs and cats picked up will be held for a short amount of time and then disposed of. The knowledge that our county and state run shelters engage in such a practice is heart wrenching. I think it's time for a change and some sort of legislation that forbids this practice. I know this idea will cost taxpayer money and I know this idea is not at the top of your list to things to tackle, like employment, but I am reminded of a quote by Mahatma Gandhi that said "the greatness of a nation can be judged on the way its animals are treated." I want our state to be a shining star and lead the charge into progress in the U.S. I want us to be a state that actively practices the changes we want to see in the world. Frankly, I just want members of government to care about animals who have done nothing but love humans and have simply been abandoned or lost. Thank you for any help you can provide in this matter.
