Haier, a Chinese refrigerator manufacturer, plans to hire 30 people by the end of February for a warehouse in Lee County, the S.C. Commerce Department said Friday.
The company, which has a plant in Camden, will occupy a 115,000-square-foot facility near I-20. The building was abandoned by King Industries, a manufacturer with 50 workers before it closed last year.
Commerce Secretary Bob Faith said Haier’s move was a dividend from his and Gov. Mark Sanford’s trip to China last October. “The China mission was an investment, and this is just the start of the returns we expect from that investment,” Faith said.
