COLUMBIA, S.C. - Members of the state
surveyors' association will spend the next three years better
defining the boundaries of state parks, the Parks, Recreation and
Tourism Department said Wednesday.
The South Carolina Society of Professional Land Surveyors is
donating services worth up to $1 million to survey the 30 state
parks in the project.
The parks department said the work is needed as development
increases around state land and concerns about encroachment rise.
Some state parks, including those dating back to the 1930s, have
never had formal surveys.
Work starts first at Paris Mountain State Park in Greenville
County and Myrtle Beach State Park in Horry County.
