In 1970, I took my young Ohio white family to Myrtle Beach for a vacation and was horrified by roving gangs of redneck yahoos waving Rebel flags out of  cars and making racial slurs. As I am sure is true of many others, I've never gone back, but since tourism is a big business in South Carolina, we obviously have not been  missed. Nothing has changed. The Confederate flag still flies over the state capital and the state is still known for bigotry and racism. How is the Confederate flag any different than the Nazi flag? Are you OK with Germany flying the Swastica to honor it's war heroes and "glory days"? I once had a boss from South Carolina whose every other word was the N word, relished telling clients racist jokes, and considered Strom Thurman a god. South Carolina perpetuates this by honoring the racial supremacy and hatred attitudes of the Old South. Will South Carolina ever change?
