These cuts represent a travesty in the failure of South Carolina to preserve its heritage. South Carolina's history is that of a pioneering leader in the human enslavement and bondage and of millions of African Americans, symbolized by the Confederate Flag. As a state, South Carolina was brave enough to stand up and participate in one of the bloodiest wars in US history to preserve its right to continue this barbaric economic system. Bravo! Further, South Carolina has maintained its position in the vanguard of racist actions and rhetoric since the civil war ended by encouraging lynching, Jim Crow legislation, segregated educational and public/private facilities to flourish and remain entrenched through most of the 20th century. Today, South Carolina still maintains its historical leadership by making minority-voting rights difficult to exercise due to its voter ID laws. A tip of the hat to the fine history of your state. Please demand that your legislators restore both the entire capitol and operating budgets in full to honor the Confederate Flag. You should be proud of your history of mistreating an entire race of humans for profit and racial bias. Surely you wouldn't want such a consistent and prideful history to go be forgotten, over the difference of $1.7 million capital investment and a difference of $182,00 of annual operating expense. What else would South Carolina do with that money anyhow? Clearly, not spend it on the well being of it's poor. If the state did, they would accept the federal funds to expand your Medicaid program and might use those funds to supplement the federal funds that cover 90% of the expansion on a permanent basis. Please put that money into the flag where it belongs. Your flag. It is your state's glory. Sincerely yours, A. Yankee
