South Carolinians to Participate in 17th Annual Southeast Vegetable & Fruit Expo

GREENSBORO---Twelve South Carolinians are scheduled to participate either as speakers or committee chairmen at the 17th Annual Southeast Vegetable & Fruit Expo to be held at the Sheraton Greensboro Hotel at Four Seasons Joseph S. Koury Convention Center in Greensboro, NC, on December 2-3, 2002.

The concurrent morning sessions on Monday, December 2nd include topics about tomato, sweet potato, stand establishment, and small fruits. Monday afternoon concurrent sessions include food safety, direct marketing, melons and watermelons, and greenhouse vegetables.

Tuesday morning concurrent session topics include: organic/sustainable crop management and production; pickling cucumbers; salad crops, and sweet corn and beans. The Tuesday afternoon concurrent session topics include: crucifers; peppers; pumpkin and squash; and specialty crops.

South Carolinians participating include: Robert Dufault, Dick Fery, Richard Hassell, and Tony Keinath---all of Clemson University’s Coastal Research and Education Center; Kevin Gowdy of Gowdy Farms in Cades, SC; Jeff Humphries of Riverside Farms in Lake City, SC; Dickie Kirby of Kirby Farms in Timmonsville, SC; and Charles Wingard of Walter P. Rawl & Sons in Gilbert, SC. Tony Melton of the Florence County, Gilbert Miller of the Bamberg County, Powell Smith of the Lexington County, and Joe Varn of the Barnwell County Clemson Extension Offices.

A Trade Show will be open continuously throughout the Expo. Courses are approved for continuing pesticide certification credit.
