Please know that I support you in this effort of taking down the flag. I get it. I understand that it was put up in 1962, and to me, it was put up under a disguise of deception. How sad that they didn't indicate a date to ever take the flag down. I believe that while it cannot bring those 9 souls back and should not be discussed while we are still grieving, that however we have no choice. It saddens me to think that our politicians and those citizens involved in coordinating that 100th Anniversary, did not have the heart to realize the sight of the flag could cause pain to some that saw it as an oppressive symbol. Of course, being "politically correct" was not even a term at the time, so I can't judge them too harshly. They didn't know any better. Again, while we can't bring these 9 souls back, I just believe that it would be a tribute to them and a lasting legacy...to take it down. I am member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, The United Daughters of the Confederacy, the mother of a Citadel graduate, a Blue Star Mother of an Air Force Captain, and a lifelong SC native with ancestors here since 1776. I love SC. It breaks my heart each time I see her in the news in a negative light. But this time, more than ever, I am proud to say that SC is my home. We do have "strong people" as you said in your press meeting. And we are strong because of the fires that we have all gone through together. We send more young people into the military than most states in the nation. And you were right that we fly more American flags than most states in the nation. We are loyal people. We are loyal to our God, and families, each other, and our state. You Rock Gov Haley! So proud of you! :-)
