It was so refreshing to hear a common sense, calm voice of reason. Something we have not heard much of lately. I am a registered Democrat but usually align more as an Independent. My husband and most of our friends are Republicans. I am a social worker and mother to three school-age children. My husband and I are active volunteers with many non profit organizations in our community. I am pro-life and for more gun control. My husband is a business owner. He is an avid hunter but has no problem with a waiting period or background check. We are both irritated with government waste and nonsense regulations. See, most Americans like us are not the picture of Washington. Unlike the loud voices we hear on television from politicians , we fall somewhere in the middle and want leaders that can COMPROMISE and be smart!! Leaders that know foreign policy, the needs of our most vulnerable citizens, and that have a knowledge of our history so that we don't make some of the same social policy mistakes of our past. How can we ask our children to look up to our leaders when they see them routinely act as bullies and make comments that are irrelevent or that are taken out of context from their opponents. If you ran a campaign based on the message that I heard today I would be very likely to vote Republican. See it is more important that we stop arguing, find our common ground and get busy making our country better for ALL of it's citizens! I truly hope we hear more from you and more brave individuals from your party that speak truth with out worry of being attacked by the angry, loudest few from their party. Thank you again. Sincerely, Brooke Holahan
