I am a breast cancer survivor and am disabled from residuals of my chemotherapy. I am having some difficulty being approved for SSD. I am currently waiting on a hearing date. However, I receive a percentage of my salary via disability with a private insurance company. An issue has been that I have to pay for my health insurance. It is somewhat difficult to manage the cost on my current income. I was wondering if at some point through our state, will we be able to receive additional government assistance for healthcare? I know that some states currently have similar support for citizens, in similar situations. My Cobra insurance was $800. When the Affordable Healthcare Act was instituted, I was able to transition at $324 per month. I recently qualified for a discount and pay $256 a month. I just found out yesterday that my health insurance is going to be $476 a month starting in December. I just wanted to reach out and ask the question and see if any type of relief through the state of South Carolina would ever be possible? I've worked most of my life and my last job I was a nonprofit executive. It's been a difficult transition, but it's been a learning experience. I try not to ask for assistance unless necessary. But I've seen so many, that have needed so much. And the times I've seen them hesitate to ask due to embarrassment.
