Ms. Kathryn Veldran, I hope this letter is directed to you as you serve on the governor's staff and may be somewhat familiar with my situation. I reside in lovely, yet dangerous Elmwood Park.  Brief review:  Our home was burglarized (including our spare car keys) in Oct 14.  Once we discovered our the thugs had stolen our spare keys, we went immediately to Toyota and Lexus dealerships to have new keys made with the understanding that our spare keys had been stolen. My husband, Todd Kolb, had his car stolen Nov 14 with Fred Anderson service manager admitting that they had not rekeyed his Prius correctly. One morning, Dec 14, @ 345am, my husband was fastening his seat belt in his car to commute to work. In looking up, there was a stranger peering in the window at him.  Now, my car has been stolen during the night of New Years. We are hard workers, law abiding, tax paying citizens. My husband is a physician, and I am a nurse.  We are being watched and targeted. I will never feel safe here again.  I truly fear for our lives.  We have been working with police up to the latest incident with no resolution. I have contacted the mayor, city council, county council, Sherriff Lott, Cola City police.  I will continue to contact and recontact state and city officials and will go to the media if my hand is forced. My car has not been found.  It is an object. It can be replaced. Our lives cannot.  We have a suspect but no proof. It involves a quadraplex next door that was grandfathered into this historical neighborhood that does not belong in this family oriented downtown neighborhood.  We have had to call 911 on MULTIPLE occasions due to many complaints. Someone needs to address this slumhouse and this slumlord, Tony Hawkins.  Secondly, we want our lives back. I live in terror as to what will happen to us next.  I am to speak on the phone with the Chief of Police Monday because he does not have time to meet with me.  I have spoken to Mayor Benjamin after the first car stolen, but he did not have time to call me Friday.  He also does not have time to meet with me as he will be out of the country part of January.  Who, Governor Haley, are we supposed to turn to? I feel we need 24 hour police coverage until this case can be cracked.  I met with Assist. Commander Kelly and Lt White on Fri.  They both are receptive and appear to hear us.  Lt White has been OUTSTANDING.  Patrolman Tyson Haas has been OUTSTANDING.  I have no compliments for any other police involved except to those that watch me walk to my car at ~430 am. They are spot on.  I understand this has been the holidays, but crime does not stop. PLEASE help us in putting pressure on the authorities and perhaps some peace of mind if this is ever possible again.  My phone number is 803-360-3124.  I am available 24/7.  I have a very ill father who needs my attention. I should not have to chase thugs, deal with disorderly neighbors, chase down investigators and deal with Fred Anderson Toyota who did us wrong and contributed to this disaster. The Lexus dealership is not certain that my car was rekeyed properly until they can have access to the computer in my car.
     The last I knew, we pay the salaries  of all of the above. and this is their job (except the car dealers of course) .Forgive my hostility.  I am afraid, and I am mad.
