SC DHEC 825 West Queen Creek Road Apt. 2087 Chandler AZ 85248 timfowler1@gmail.com 4802990399 4802990399 Hello, A few of years ago we adopted one of our granddaughters. In 2013 we moved to Arizona. Now or daughter has turned 5 years old and we need to enroll her in school here in Arizona which requires us to have an updated birth certificate. Last November we called SC DHEC to find out what needed to be done to get an updated birth certificate. We were told to send in copies of our drivers license and the original certificate of adoption. This is the only copy we had and we were told it would not be returned. We were told at that time that this would take about 6 weeks to complete at a cost of $15. We mailed in the check and the requested paperwork. Four months later we had to call the SC DHEC office to find out the status of our request. Nothing had been done on the case at that time. Two weeks go by and we finally received two new birth certificates only the mother maiden's name is incorrect. We called SC DHEC back. The first complaint is that it takes anywhere from one hour to two hours to get through to anyone at the SC DHEC office. When you call, you get an automated answer saying that all representatives are busy. This repeats every minute for about 15 minutes when the phone finally starts to ring. The phone then rings about 10 times then just hangs up. No one ever answered. We repeated this process for two hours until someone finally picked up. When we stated that the birth certificates we were sent were incorrect, the representative was rude and unwilling to listen to what we were trying to say until we finally yelled at him to get his attention. He then told us to call Angela Nelson directly to get this resolved. Angela did try to return our call and was not rude at all but still was unable to help get this issue resolved. What we are being told is that the birth certificates were created and the names used as it was written on the original certificate of adoption. The only way to get the birth certificates corrected is to have the certificate of adoption amended through the courts, then send that copy in along with the incorrect birth certificates. We would also have to pay $15 plus $6 for each birth certificate to be replaced. This process would start over and take another 2 to 3 months to complete. This is not including the time it will take to get the amended certificate of adoption. When I asked if she had the certificate of adoption in front of her, she said not because it is sealed. So now I have no way of knowing if the certificate of adoption is indeed incorrect or if SC DHEC made a mistake. When the courts issue a certificate of adoption, it is the only copy given out. Our original adaption lawyer does not even have a copy. There has to be a better way to get this issue resolved. We can't come into the office as we now live in Arizona. We can't send anymore original copies because the SC DHEC have all of the originals. The process to get a birth certificate takes 2 to 4 months and along with getting an amended certificate of birth from the courts, we wouldn't get the correct birth certificate in time to enroll our daughter in school. My wifes maiden name is Annette Lyn VanHulle. The birth certificates that we received list the mother's maiden name as VanHulle Lyn Fowler. As you can see, it's not even close. Please help us get this issue resolved ASAP. Kind Regards, Tim Fowler 72.208.229.225
