The Honorable Nikki Haley,

I was born in Mississippi and have family that live in Charleston. My family has lived in the southern part of United States since the 1600s.

The tradition of enslavement and racism that the confederate battle flag symbolizes should have no part in our society. There are few families that have a "tradition" as long as ours in the South. Yet we truly believe it is time to demonstrate a true healing and moving forward.

My counsel would be to remove this symbol of a shameful and painful era.
