As a lawyer  with contacts in the media, I am aware of reports circulating around the world in the media causing deep anger and disgust-I attach a copy of just one of these in the link below. I quite understand you cannot discuss the specifics of this case. 

As you will know, animal cruelty is an issue which deeply concerns many millions of people all over the world and there is much evidence now that people capable of such atrocities to animals. or even those who just enjoy watching cruelty, are highly likely to be a danger to other people too, especially women and children, so the public expects to see the culprits severely punished, banned for life from keeping pets, and ideally monitored in the future, and made aware they will be. I sincerely hope you can get the punishment publicised widely to deter others, assuming a proper punishment is meted out.

I urge you please to make clear to the judge that many people around the world, including the media, will be watching closely to see what happens, and the judgement will receive a lot of publicity. If a proper sentence is not meted out, there really will be an outcry, and wealthy charities may well decide to make an example of this case.
