COLUMBIA, S.C. - The House and Senate have
agreed to a compromise bill that could lure a major motion picture
and television series to the Lowcountry.
The bill approved Wednesday would give film companies up to $10
million in tax breaks if they shoot a production in South
Carolina.
Lawmakers rushed to get the legislation approved in the hopes of
luring a $45 million movie and a $48 million Warner Brothers
television series. Producers for both are reportedly looking at the
Charleston area.
The bill gives a 15 percent break on wage taxes and a 15 percent
rebate on other expenses.
Gov. Mark Sanford worked with production officials to help
lawmakers craft incentives that would revitalize the state's film
industry, gubernatorial spokesman Will Folks said.
The governor will sign the bill soon, Folks said.
