Residents work to prevent being taken by storm

As the remnants of Tropical Storm Cindy move through the Upstate this morning, residents are waking up to high winds, heavy rains and the possibility of a tornado.

More than four inches of rain are expected to fall in the area before the storm moves out tonight. Two inches have fallen at the Greenville-Spartanburg International Airport this morning.

Greenville, Anderson and Hart counties are currently under a flood warning until 10:30 a.m., according to National Weather Service meteorologist Terry Benthall.

The agency also has issued a flood warning for the Saluda River at West Pelzer to remain in effect until Saturday, Benthall said.

The entire Upstate is under a tornado watch until 10 a.m., as Cindy moves along the spine of the Appalachian Mountains headed Northeast up the Atlantic Coast.

The storm is expected to move out of the area tonight with chances of rain decreasing after midnight, Benthall said.

He said Friday is expected to be hot with temperatures in the low 90s and partly cloudy skies. Also, Hurricane Dennis is aiming its way toward the Gulf Coast, the same area hit by Cindy.
