I have never been so proud of a politician, either locally, state-wide or nation-wide as I was of YOU that evening. Your response and your wording calling out the National Debate with both parties was right-on with most persons' feelings here in South Carolina. I believe that one of your aides comes from a family that has and still attends our churches in South Carolina and Florida. Grace under fire and the way you conducted yourself running up to your first election and up until now is a dynamic role model that we can hold up to the world and say, "Look, I live in South Carolina and this is what our Governor did and said on many issues that a lot of seasoned politicians could not have performed under fire like you did. I remember writing you once regarding a Nationwide Project that was projected to upgrade the Broadband Internet and had already began in Greenville and was following the I-85 route from South Carolina into North Carolina and if we could have gotten them to broaden their scope on one side of one Stretch, several cities and towns, Gaffney, Blacksburg, Clover, Lake Wylie and York would have benefited greatly. I followed your follow-up advice and also contacted Congressman Mick Mulvaney's office's. I got results and I wanted to let you know how much I appreciate you as a person, YOU as OUR GOVERNOR, and your brave stance in the tough times. I was born and raised in SC, two persons who have ties to the Sikh Faith have had an impact on my personal life though I am educated and have traveled widely, the two are YOU, as Governor and Dr. Inderjeet Singh, Charlotte's Carolina's Medical Hospital-Kings Mountain, N.C., Chief of Staff. Dr. Singh helped my Mother when she was diagnosed with Cancer. She was already Stage 4. Dr. Singh was raised in Louisiana and was wonderful to my Mother and my family during her illness. She would bake special dishes and take him special gifts and he arranged for her to hold their (His and His wife's) first newborn baby. Why am I telling you this? There is a paper thrown in my driveway occasionally and its way of distribution only goes to people in the community that the publishers know were born and raised in the Upstate. It not only attacks Democrats, but it also attacks Republicans and the latest one was vicious. I do not know the publishers and I wonder the consequences of attempting to know how that paper has gotten in our driveway since I was a child and I am almost 65 years old. Some attitudes are slow to change and I wonder if they will ever. According to our churches throughout South Carolina, pastors were asking for advice regarding not our Church Members but how our Church Members should respond to extreme statements made at public places regarding race and President Obama and Latinos and anyone who was in a position of leadership that was not (White-Caucasian-Southern-Born and Raised). We consulted our attorneys, ensured that no published paper or tract could access our church gateway and advised our pastors regarding the First Amendment Speech Rights and when to advise our congregation members and other pastors when a hint of extremism was vocalized, printed and implied and how to respond according to the law and unto our God who teaches us to respect Our Governments and all human life as well as celebrate the differences in culture and faiths of others. Our particular Congregation, being just one of many in a loosely affiliated Christian denomination, our racial make-up is a mixture of African-American, White or Caucasian, Latino, Native American. We do not proselytize but welcome all Faiths. Our faith makeup includes from all the Protestant Denominations, the Roman Catholic Church, Jehovah Witnesses, Mormons, some former Pagans who were so impressed that a small town in South Carolina was so unique and real and was a doer and not just a hearer of our Faith. I am thankful for my childhood growing up in the Bethany Community outside Clover and attending Bethany Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church. My growing up community, (changed from since then), but growing up in that was awesome. Once adulthood, marriage and children, we decided to as many others have, to assist in helping establish an independent church fellowship that was more accepting of different persons' faith and origin. Would it not help, whether in Civics or the Teaching of History of South Carolina to ensure that the minorities from many parts of the world that have contributed to South Carolina receive acknowledgement of their contributions to the Positive Growth and Progressive and Moderate Policies be placed in our children's textbooks and with a goal of naming living persons close by or in that school district who own companies that employ their families and friends. I believe that would make a difference when introduced early in Education, very early to show "real" human beings and encourage children to listen to a different view point to round out and balance an education along with technical skills and art-based courses required. I think I would be proud to see not only the printed books, but the time, which is or could be now when First-Graders are or could be using tablets as they do now and access their assignments in class. Also ensure the students can access assignments and replay the class lecture or whole day or part of the day when they are sick or at home to be able to listen or replay the class session. A student could use this media to access the individual teachers and certified tutors pursuant to the class, the could communicate or have their parents communicate with the school and faculty in an expedited way instead of a short phone call or a written note. I believe the tools are here now and with a certification of a parent or guardian in the home with the child that children all over South Carolina could benefit from electronic communication knowing that their tablet's ip address could also be watched for those who would be predators or attempt to teach hate or bullying. This technology is here and these students use it for a lot of life's interactions. If a child or young person can walk into a Walmart and purchase for less than a hundred dollars' technology to play games and interact with each other, should we not also use that same skill to assist our teachers, principals, tutors and other resource accesses to ensure that students have no excuses and does have access to confidential sources to not only ensure learning, interaction with others and respect for authority but also monitor bullying and drug invasion of the classrooms. Technology should never completely replace one on one teacher, principal and tutoring and monitoring, but I am in contact with friends in the Scandinavian Countries as well as the Progressive Asian countries that are surpassing the United States in Education, an example is Finland. I speak almost daily with a friend and family-member from Estonia, who is, along with government support and the community involved in establishing side-by-side schools similar to what some states public schools (charter schools) are and have been doing and studying the impact this has upon their country. I apologize for this long communication. My main goal was to express how proud I was of you and how you led the South Carolina Government under fire when worse could have happened and vigilance is STILL called for to respond to extremism properly to ensure the peace, safety and justice for all South Carolinians. Thank you Governor Nicki Haley for serving the People of South Carolina and making us proud.
