Greenville County Democrats got their side-by-side look Saturday at the party's two candidates for governor, and state Sen. Tommy Moore came out ahead of Florence Mayor Frank Willis in a straw vote.

Moore had 49 votes, or 56 percent, to Willis' 27, or 31 percent. Thirteen percent opted for uncommitted.

While the unscientific micro-sampling offers little more than bragging rights until the next county holds one, Moore and Willis drew some philosophical lines in the sand in their remarks.

The two candidates seeking the right to challenge Republican Gov. Mark Sanford's 2006 re-election prioritized different issues, Willis, economic development, Moore, education.

Explaining why he's running for governor, Willis, a building contractor and mayor since 1995, cited three numbers, 4-6-42.
