Gov. Nikki Haley Praises House Guantanamo Bay Vote

“Protecting the people of S.C. is my highest priority”

COLUMBIA, S.C. - As news reports revealed today that "two more prisoners who were released from the Guantanamo Bay detention center in the first six months of the year have returned to the battlefield," the U.S. House of Representatives voted to stop Guantanamo Bay detainee transfers.

Governor Nikki Haley today released the following statement after the House vote:

“Moving terrorists from a secure facility outside of the United States to Charleston or releasing them back onto the battlefield is a risk the people of South Carolina aren't willing to take. Protecting the people of South Carolina is my highest priority, and we thank the U.S. House - and in particular Congressman Mark Sanford, Congressman Joe Wilson, Congressman Jeff Duncan, Congressman Trey Gowdy, Congressman Mick Mulvaney and Congressman Tom Rice - for working with us on what is a critical national security issue.”
