CHRISTINA CALLISON KUBINSKA EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR THE PRES+ON FOUNDATION, INC. P.O. BOX 896 SULLIVANS ISLAND SC 29482 THEPRESONFOUNDATION@GMAIL.COM PROC SOUTH CAROLINA MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS DAY (OCTOBER 8, 2014) Dear Governor Haley: I am Executive Director of The Pres+On Foundation, Inc., a South Carolina-based nonprofit organization dedicated to Mental Health Awareness. We were contacted by the South Carolina Hospital Management Academy about collaborating on a project and, together, we chose to focus on the upcoming Mental Health Awareness Week (October 5-11) and specifically on working to declare Wednesday, October 8, 2014 "South Carolina Mental Health Awareness Day." The mayors of Charleston, Mt. Pleasant, North Charleston, Sullivan's Island & Greenwood, SC, are all on board & are issuing proclamations declaring the day. In Charleston, ALL area hospitals are participating in this day by lighting their hospital towers or campus green. This includes: MUSC, MUSC Children's Hospital, all 3 Ropers, East Cooper, the VA, & Trident. College of Charleston also just contacted us to let us know that they will be participating as well. And for the City of Charleston, the Ashley Bridge will be lit green (the color for Mental Health Awareness) that evening. In Columbia, the South Carolina Hospital Association (SCHA) has given its full support & has sent out communication to all the hospitals in the state to get them on board for the Oct 8th SC Mental Health Awareness Day. SCHA will also be lighting its building green for this day of Awareness. In Greenwood, Self Regional Hospital is lighting its campus green and the City of Greenwood is lighting its Main Street green for the entire week. We're ecstatic & humbled by the outpouring of support & participation this day has received, and by the prospect of having a South Carolina Mental Health Awareness Day recognized statewide annually. More info can be found on our website page: http://thepresonfoundation.org/southcarolinamhaday We humbly ask for your support in proclaiming October 8, 2014 as South Carolina Mental Health Awareness Day. To have your stamp of approval for this day - as our Governor - would cement all of our efforts. The timing is also of importance as the national (& global) discussion on mental health is getting louder every day. Coupled with your recent tv spot, this seems very fitting. Please join us in declaring South Carolina Mental Health Awareness Day on October 8, 2014. We are ready & more than happy to provide you with any materials & information for use in a proclamation, if you're willing. Thank you so much, Christina Callison Kubinska thepresonfoundation@gmail.com http://thepresonfoundation.org
