SC Senator Fighting Cancer
Senator Kay Patterson has been serving the citizens of South Carolina for 30 years.

Patterson says he served in the house until 1985. And since 1985 he has been in the Senate.

Even though he's currently going through chemotherapy, he says there's no place he'd rather be.

Patterson says his Chemo is administered intravenously.

"They call it the red devil into your veins," says Patterson.

Diagnosed with cancer in January, Patterson underwent surgery in April to rid his body of the cancer. His left breast was removed.

Patterson says the doctor got all of it, but there is procedure you must follow and that is to take chemo therapy.

Patterson's chemo began in May and once a month until August, he must undergo treatment. His hair is falling out and he is drained of energy. He says it hasn't stopped him from taking his seat in the Senate everyday.

"I've been here everyday for 30 years," says Patterson, "my constituents have sent me back down here for 30 years without opposition."

And with the cancer beat and the chemo almost complete, he just might give them 30 more.
