I am very concerned about the image our state is giving to visitors as well as it's own citizen's.I know that you are all busy trying to make this state a better place and I appreciate that.I have noticed that our state is getting more and more littered.I know we are growing very fast,but  tourism is our biggest industry and we should always put out best foot forward,so to speak,first impressions do count.I know we have organizations like Palmetto Pride,and others that do city clean ups.Mu concern is the roadside litter which seems to get worse and worse,for a while it was getting better,but I have noticed and people that come here have noticed it seems to be getting a lot trashier.Our biggest industry is tourism,over $18 Billion dollars and I know we get lots of great accolades,especially for Charleston and Greenville,I am very proud of our state and it's beauty and it really hurts to see it so littered.I travel a lot and states like North Carolina,Virginia, Georgia and Florida and their roadsides are so much cleaner,if they can do it I don't see why we can't have a better way of cleaning the roadsides as well as keeping the roads in better shape.These other states have the same problems we do,but they seem to be able to do a better job at this.We can't rest because we get lots of visitors and a lot of new companies and people are moving here and the state is growing,we need to give people and companies a reason for coming here and wanting to come back,as I said first impressions count,there has to be a way we can clean our roadsides better.I have had many clients that come here and they love Charleston,but i always hear something about how littered the state is.Just driving down Interstate 26 from Summerville to downtown use to be a pleasure,but I have noticed large pieces of litter that has been in the medium for over 6 months(mattresses,chairs,garbage cans) they use to have a sweeper that came down the concrete medium at least once a month that hasn't happened in over 6 months,the litter just keeps getting worse,same goes for other major highways to Myrtle Beach,Hilton Head,I know we have taxes on hotel rooms and such couldn't we allocate some of those visitor taxes into making our roads look nicer? I know myself everytime I go out I take a bag with me to pick up litter as I walk the beaches or parks.I know the problem is everywhere and its a shame people don't have more pride,but I really think South Carolina needs to step up it's game and make out state look nicer for visitors as well as it's citizens.We are growing and a lot of new people are moving here,we need to give them something to be proud of! thank you for your attention,I just want our state to be the best in everything.John Miller
