I am participating in the Beaufort County Chamber of Commerce's Leadership Beaufort Program for this year and have been assigned to lead a team of researchers for our group whose job is to find out information on ways that we can all get involved in government. My sub group has been assigned to the state level of government in South Carolina. We have been charged with talking to various elected officials to discover what it takes to run for office. We have contacted Shannon Erickson and Tom Davis. I was assigned to contact you to see if you might be able to speak with me by phone and answer some basic questions about what you had to do to run for office and also any state boards, committees, or commissions where there is a need at the State level for citizens to volunteer and get involved. If this is OK with you please feel free to email me with an appointment time when you can call me to help me with answers to these questions. If not then please just email me and let me know that this will not be possible. I am very proud that you are the Governor of South Carolina and that you are also a graduate of Orangeburg Prep. I graduated from Willington Academy in 1983 before attending Carolina. I hope that you can spare a few minutes to talk.
