Bill aims to end notifications when young drivers ticketed

Associated Press

COLUMBIA--The Department of Motor Vehicles wants to end a practice of notifying car owners when someone younger than 18 gets a ticket.

A bill to do that cleared a House subcommittee Wednesday.

The agency has said it costs too much to give those notices and most owners already knew about the tickets. The bill also clarifies that 15-year-old students in a high school drivers' education course can get behind the wheel.
