CHARITIES SOLICITOR CHARGED

    Secretary of State Jim Miles announced today that a professional fundraising solicitor, charged with violating the state’s charities laws, turned himself in Tuesday to officers at the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office. Dan Wilburn had been charged with providing false information to the Secretary of State and failure to disclose his status as a professional solicitor. Each charge carries a penalty of up to one year in jail and a $5,000 fine.
According to the Greenville County Sheriff’s Office, warrants had been issued for Wilburn’s arrest on both counts. Wilburn, who had worked for Patrol Services, a telemarketing firm working for the S.C. State Troopers Coalition, turned himself into authorities on Tuesday afternoon.

    “The Greenville Sheriff’s Office has done an outstanding job,” said Secretary Miles. “Their professionalism and expertise were crucial in the handling of this case.”
