We appreciate the time and concern that you put forth to ensure the best for our area. I am hopeful that you will pardon some, if not all, of the school days missed by Horry County School students/staff due to Hurricane Matthew. Since many of us were evacuated due to the governor issued mandate, and the majority of us spent the days prior to the storm in preparation and the days following repairing damage to our own homes, and our community, those days were certainly not an exchange for the student vacation days that are scheduled on the calendar designated as possible "make-up days." As a former middle school director, teacher and lifelong learner myself, I certainly understand the importance of academic time within the classroom, but I am also aware that the time our students spent helping prepare and rebuild our community, both before and after the storm, certainly serve as authentic learning experiences that are just as invaluable to our students and the community at-large as time spent on task in the classroom. I appreciate your continued commitment to our schools and our children's educational well being. I am proud to be a part of SC and a community that stood together united with our brethren throughout the storm. Sincerely, Amy Armstrong Stadler
