STATE FARMERS MARKETS ARE IN “FALL” SWING
COLUMBIA---Pumpkins are arriving in South Carolina in abundance, especially at the State Farmers Markets in Columbia, Greenville, and Florence.
The larger Halloween-type pumpkins are better for decorations, and the smaller ones are best suited for cooking and baking pies. Consumers should purchase pumpkins that have a firm rind and a bright appearance.
Other fall products arriving alongside pumpkins include: gourds, sweet potatoes, autumn plants and flowers, and other produce and ornamental horticulture products.
Whether consumers want a pumpkin for a "trick" or a "treat", they can find just the right one at one of the State Farmers Markets. Market locations include: the Columbia State Farmers Market on Bluff Road in Columbia (803-737-4664), the Greenville State Farmers Market at 1354 Rutherford Rd. in Greenville (864-244-4023), and the Pee Dee State Farmers Market at 2513 W. Lucas St. in Florence (843-665 -1311).
Or, consumers can check out local supermarkets, roadside markets, or pick-your-own operations.
