Born and raised in Connecticut. Master's Degree from Carnegie-Mellon University. USC daughter - I saw your commencement address at her graduation. Clemson son - go Tigers. I love this state. I respect you, and I am proud that you are my Governor, although we happen to totally disagree on President Obama. Governor, I am at a loss to understand how you can support Donald Trump. Your silence, compliance, and loyalty to the Republican party IS support for this man. Without getting into specific details, in my opinion, with each passing week Donald Trump demonstrates his vast personal and political shortcomings, and that he is patently unfit, unprepared, and lacks the basic human empathy and moral foundation to be President. I cannot understand how a woman as smart, as good, as strong, and as principled as you can stand by his side. (How can you retire the Confederate flag and support a man who wants to build a wall to keep Mexicans out and treats Muslims and women with profound disrespect?) I do not think much of Ted Cruz - but he was right on Donald Trump. Ted Cruz earned my respect for refusing to endorse Donald Trump at the Republican convention. Cruz did and said what I expected you to do and say. For your family. For your conscience. For your constituents. For the South Carolina we both love. Political pundits have summed it up best. There is what is right for the Republican party. And there is what is right for America. Please consider the differences. I support you, Governor. I hope you choose to run for President in 2020. But I can still disagree with your choice to remain silent on Donald Trump. I am proud of you and to have you as my Governor. I am equally ashamed of Donald Trump and fearful of the risks he poses to the United States and the world order. Please think about who you really should align yourself with, and how if you choose to distance yourself from Trump, how that may be of long-term benefit to you with your political ambitions in the future. To me, Trump is a lot like BREXIT - he is just plain wrong, and voting for him is both dangerous and destabilizing for what is right. Choose your allegiance wisely. Dave Isner 803.554.3305
