Giuliani to Visit Palmetto
State |
(Columbia) - South Carolina political
experts say former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani's moderate social
stance and ties to Bernard Kerik could hurt his chances in this
conservative state's primary.
The primary is still more than
three years away, but experts are guessing who might run on the
G.O.P. side to replace President Bush.
State G.O.P. chairman
Katon Dawson says will play a large role in the primary
race.
Giuliani has stumped for Republicans in South Carolina
in the past.
Dawson says the former mayor has a speaking
engagement scheduled in February.
Francis Marion University
political scientist Neal Thigpen says the former mayor's image may
have taken a hit because of his involvement with Kerik, who withdrew
as Bush's nominee as the next U.S. homeland security chief.
