I have an idea to help protect the naïve in our state.  If you have the power, I wish you would ban student loans for unaccredited programs. Through our church I am helping the most naïve woman who is tens of thousands of dollars in debt for a degree in education that is not accredited.  She can't get a teaching job, but the School District told her that if she got a Master's degree in education, she could quality.  She's signed up with another online school for a Master's and she can't answer the question about whether or not this school is accredited.  She thinks it is because they made a presentation to Charleston County School teachers, so that means that they are accredited and the school district will accept this degree from that school. It does not necessarily mean that and she won't ask because no other program will loan her the money.

At the very least, we should require full disclosure of the accreditation status and whether or not the programs at that school are nationally accredited before enrolling anyone in their first college class.

These unaccredited, primarily online schools impoverish our people and give them nothing in return. It's a disgrace.  

Please protect our people.
