Conway High School anglers host, win Bass-Redfish Tournament
For the second time this season the Conway High School anglers hosted and won the same tournament. Their latest victory was on April 28 fishing out of Georgetown and the Sampit River with two categories to win (bass and redfish)
It was a typical hot, muggy late April day in South Carolina and spinner baits were the first choice to get the bass as opposed to red drum in the brackish water said Conway coach Rayburn Poston, “About five minutes after we launched, I got a text from one of my anglers that said he already had a red drum in the boat. I knew it was going to be a good day.”
Ford Courtney and Brody Lavorie of Conway took the top spot in both the bass and redfish categories. Following up were Dequan Funny and Guerry Green of Waccamaw High School in second place for both categories. Cole Miller and Kane Travis of Waccamaw tied for second in the redfish category and placed third in bass. Blair Avant and Vincent Dimaggio of Waccamaw placed third in bass. Also fishing was Aynor High School.
All you need to do is get a minimum of six students (within the 11-18 year old range) with dues paid and you can also have a Youth Bass Fishing Club. You'll also need an adult at your school to help lead the club, provide advice and help arrange at least two club tournaments, fundraisers, speakers and other learning sessions pertaining to fishing for club meetings. The Youth Bass Fishing Clubs is a product of a partnership between the S.C. Department of Natural Resources and The Bass Federation of South Carolina with help and support from parents, teachers, school districts, local bait & tackle shops, community partners and Pure Fishing.
