The Islands Society is an international nonprofit headquartered on Hilton Head Island, SC. Islands Society has a mission to respect, inspire, and empower islanders from around the world to participate in foreign affairs and overseas engagements in order to affect positive changes in their local communities. I wanted to share with you an article I wrote that was published through the University of Southern California's Center on Public Diplomacy blog. I argue that South Carolina recognized the Republic of China (ROC) as a sovereign country due to the language used by the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles after signing a reciprocity agreement with the ROC. The article explores ROC's use of 'public diplomacy' to achieve its foreign policy goals and the ramifications of SC's recognition of the ROC in international affairs. The article can be found here... http://uscpublicdiplomacy.org/blog/tsai-ing-wen-did-you-know-taiwan-country-south-carolina I hope that you take a moment to read the article and I'd happily answer any questions or feedback you may have. Sincerely James Carroll Islands Society
